WELCOME TO THE WRITE ON THE EDGE POETRY PAGE

Enough can never be said about poetry. So here are so more quotes addressing it. I hope we can build fires in every writer.

"Poetry is defined as: language of imagination expressed in verse; metrical composition.

Dancing is the poetry of motion."

Tim Farrington On Creativity, Depression, And The Dark Night of the Soul

interviewed by D. Patrick Miller

for The Sun magazine March 2010 Issue 411

says:

Done right, the discipline of writing makes your heart more open and soft -- or at least it helps you take your head out of your ass.  Writing should ultimately decrease morbid self-absorption, not make it worse.

Erv Barnes received an Honorable Mention for LOOKING ILLEGAL from the

Yuma 3rd Annual Poetry Contest - May 2010

                                                 LOOKING ILLEGAL

                                               by Erv Barnes

Upon the paper sheets,

            In quiet dark repose,

            Appearance of innocence,

                        Or, ignorance I suppose:

            AZ SB 10-7-0;

Letters lie in lawful service,

            Word by word precision,

            Intentional division,

                        Or, derision did compose:

            Whereas, heretofore;

Protect us and defend us,

            From foreign and domestic,

            Emotions less majestic,

                        Or, septic did disclose:

            Desperate otherness;

Obeying every letter,

            Word and spirit of the law,

            Therein lies complicity,

            Rather than simplicity,

                        Or, honesty, I propose;

Spirit lies in camouflage,

            Rage cloaked in legal guise,

            Fear cowered in disguise,

            Out from righteousness despise,

                        Or, puny blame I depose;

If led by men and women,

            Of selfless disposition,

            And soulful just volition,

                        Sentient letters decompose;

            Choose to leave their page,

            Elect to lose their rage,

                        And bigotry dispose.
