Monica Maggio is a convicted murderer who has been sentenced to 43 years in prison and is facing retrial on appeal. She befriends Fay Carr, an ailing, older, gay cellmate who is awaiting trial on charges of kidnapping and assault. With the system and family working against them they band together to battle the legal system which has devastated their lives.
